Dog Life Insurance
A good insurance for all dog owners. If you have this insurance, you will receive compensation if the dog dies as a result of an accident or illness, if euthanasia is recommended by a veterinarian or if the dog is lost and not found despite a search.
- Period of purchase: When a dog is between the age of 8 weeks and 5 years.
- Insurance amount: The insurance amount of Dog Life Insurance is an optional amount. It is good to keep in mind that the compensation can never exceed the market value of the dog on the day of the accident. If you want to insure a dog for more than ISK 100,000, the dog must have a registered pedigree with the Icelandic Kennel Club or the Icelandic Herding Dog Association. The insurance amount will remain unchanged until the dog reaches the age of 7 years, after which it will decrease by 20% annually.
- Duration: Once the dog reaches the age of 10, the insurance is cancelled and will not be renewed.

The insurance covers
- If the dog dies due to an illness or accident.
- If euthanasia is recommended by a veterinarian.
- If the dog is lost and not found despite a search.
The insurance does not cover
- Death or euthanasia due to pre-existing diseases or accidents that occurred before the insurance took effect.
- Death or euthanasia due to mental illness, behavioural disorders or temperament problems.
- Death or euthanasia due to infectious hepatitis.
- Euthanasia on the instruction of a public authority.
- Death due to an accident caused by a dog being tied to a vehicle, loose in a vehicle or abandoned in a vehicle.
