Personal injury and illness abroad
If you are involved in a serious accident or suffer unforeseen and serious illness while traveling abroad, the medical facility you go to will need confirmation of your travel insurance. You must report the matter to SOS International. If you have travel insurance, SOS International will confirm it and pay for the services you receive, provided the claim is valid. SOS International has a 24-hour hotline with specially trained staff who can also help you arrange for a doctor, hospitalization, and repatriation.

Property Damage
If there is serious property damage, such as from fire or water, contact VÍS Emergency Services at 560 5000. We are available 24/7.
Vehicle Damage
You can contact Arekstur.is if you need help filling out a damage report. This service is available in the capital area between 7:45 AM and 6:30 PM on weekdays and between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Saturdays. Phone: 578 9090.
Criminal Acts
If there is suspicion of a criminal act, such as burglary or vandalism, please contact the police immediately by calling 112.
Repair Shops and Car Rentals
Damage inspection of repairable vehicles (before repair) is carried out at authorized repair shops that have an agreement with VÍS.
It is necessary to contact us before going to any repair shop not listed among our authorized partners.
We recommend waiting to see whether the damage will be compensated before beginning repairs or incurring any costs related to the damage.
VÍS Damage Inspection
If items are severely damaged and irreparable, the damage is assessed at VÍS Damage Inspection. Compensation is then paid based on the market value of the damaged item.
Inspection of repairable vehicles (before repair) takes place at authorized repair shops with agreements with VÍS.
On the VÍS auction website, auctions are held for items damaged in various types of incidents, such as vehicle damage, home content damage, or fire and water damage. All items up for auction are on display from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Mondays at VÍS Damage Inspection.
