Individual Liability Insurance
According to Icelandic law, you are liable for damages if you cause personal injury or property damage to others in a culpable and illegal manner.
- Liability Insurance pays compensation to your injured party if you are liable for damages. The insurance also provides compensation for costs that may be incurred by you if a claim for damages is made against you.
- As liability is often a complex legal issue, we advise you to consult with us about your legal position if a claim is made against you in respect of damage for which you are believed to be at fault. We especially advise you not to accept liability without consulting us.
- Liability Insurance also covers damage due to mopeds in category I and bicycles that are not subject to insurance according to traffic law.
The insurance covers
- Costs that you must pay if you are liable for damages according to tort law.
- Costs that you must pay if you are liable for damages due to an incident that occurred because you were the driver of a moped in category I.
The insurance does not cover
- Damage that occurs following a specific task that you have been assigned to perform. Often referred to as "damage in contract".
- Costs for damage caused by the parties covered by the insurance to each other.
- Costs due to damage that you cause at work.
- Costs for damage to items you have borrowed.
- Costs for damage caused by you as the owner or user of vehicles, firearms or animals.
- The part of the claim that falls under the deductable.
