The European Health Insurance Card
Icelanders travelling in the EEA and Switzerland are entitled to hospital services within the public health system if they are holders of the European Health Insurance Card.
It should be noted, however, that costs incurred in private hospitals and all medical transport costs are excluded. These costs can be claimed under F Plus, credit card insurance or separate travel insurance policies.
In order to be entitled to services free of charge, the European Health Insurance Card must be presented. The card is available from Icelandic Health Insurance and it is easy to apply for the card on their website.
