The European Health Insurance Card entitles the cardholder to healthcare services in other EEA countries, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
The cardholder pays the same fee for healthcare services as those insured under the public health system of the respective country.
The card is only valid with public healthcare providers, not with private clinics or private hospitals.
In addition to costs incurred at private clinics and private hospitals, all medical transport is also excluded from the European Health Insurance Card.
It is possible to check whether such costs are covered by the travel insurance (cover in home insurance) or credit card insurance, if such coverage is in place.
