Personal injury and illness abroad

If you are involved in a serious accident or suffer unfor­eseen and serious illness while traveling abroad, the medical facility you go to will need confir­mation of your travel insurance. You must report the matter to SOS Internati­onal. If you have travel insurance, SOS Internati­onal will confirm it and pay for the services you receive, provided the claim is valid. SOS Internati­onal has a 24-hour hotline with specially trained staff who can also help you arrange for a doctor, hospitalization, and repat­riation.

Property damage

If there is serious property damage, such as from fire or water, contact VÍS Emer­gency Services at 560 5000. We are available 24/7.

Vehicle damage

You can contact carcrash.is (Icelandic: arekst­ur.is) if you need help filling out a damage report. This service is available in the capital area between 7:45 AM and 6:30 PM on week­days and between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Satur­days. Phone: 578 9090.

Crim­inal acts

If there is suspicion of a crim­inal act, such as burglary or vandal­ism, please contact the police immedia­tely by calling 112.

Vehicle damage inspections are carried out at authorized repair shops that have a contract with VÍS.

It is necessary to contact us before seeking service anywhere other than those listed.

We advise you to wait for confir­mation on whether the damage will be covered before starting repairs or incurring any costs related to the damage.

If the vehicle is beyond repair, compensation is paid based on its market value.

The auction of damaged items for VÍS takes place on the website bila­upp­bod.is, which is owned by Krókur.

Krókur is an authorized seller that, among other things, handles the sale of vehicles for insurance comp­anies and financial instituti­ons.
